Excerpt of letter to the editor in response to editorial, “It’s Time to Collaborate – Not Compete – with NPs,” Journal of Family Practice (December 2010) – published February 2011
On behalf of the Coalition for Patients’ Rights, a national coalition of more than 35 health care organizations, I applaud Dr. Susman’s editorial on NP– family physician collaboration. As our nation searches for ways to ensure quality and access to care for all, we believe that an interdisciplinary approach across professions is in the best interest of Americans.

CPR asserts that enabling access to health care professionals who are not MDs or DOs will be critical to meet growing demand under health care reform, and that AMA's efforts to limit the practice scopes of non-MD/DO professionals will have a negative impact on health care quality, accessibility and affordability for patients.
